I

I

IbU

of Interior, it is anticipated that the report will be circulated
as provided under the 1944 Flood Control Act.

Fruitland Mesa and Bostwick Park Proiects. Funds
scheduled for these investigations for fiscal year 1960 are insuf-
ficient for completion of the proposed feasibility reports. Addi-
tional funds, estimated at $30,000 would be required to complete
proposed reports on both projects in F. Y. 1960. Designs and
estimates for Fruitland Mesa are fairly well advanced, but are
just being started on Bestwick Park. Economic and financial anal-
yses still must be prepared for both projects, and the report and
appendices completed. All other phases of the investigations are
essentially complete. The proposed storage capacity in Silver
Jack Reservoir (Bestwick Park Project) has been increased by
1,500 acre-feet to 9,500 acre-feet total to provide water for
maintaining minimum fishery flows on Cimarron Creek. A tentative
agreement has been reached with the Bureau of Sport Fisheries
and Wildlife on the minimum flows desired for Sapinero and Cure-
canti Creeks in the Fruitland Mesa project.

Dolores Proiect. By pumping from dead storage in McPhee
Reservoir and by adding terminal storage reservoirs at the end of
the Yellow Jacket canal, the potential service area in Dove Creek
area can be increased appreciably above the 26,000 acres planned
in the May 1954 status report. Further study and discussion of
the plan formulation possibilities are scheduled for the first
half of fiscal year 1960, after which we can go forward with the
feasibility designs and estimates of project features. We plan
to consult with the Conservation Board regarding plan formulation
and plan selection.

Animas-La Plata Proiect. Surveys and studies of the
Animas Mountain Reservoir site as a source of municipal water
for the city of Durango have been added to the investigations.
By utilizing feed canals or pipelines from Junction Creek and
Fall Creek, to be supplemented eventually from the Animas-La
Plata canal, the immediate and future municipal needs can be met.
This plan would have the further advantage of replacing Florida
River water and thus increasing supplies for the Florida project.
Detailed land classification surveys in the McDermott area are
continuing. Addition of the municipal water studies, and expan-
sion of the .power and flood-control studies will extend the
scheduled report completion date to December 1962.

Juniper Reservoir. Our February 1957 reconnaissance
report describes the irrigation possibilities from this reser-
voir. This reservoir could serve approximately 33,000 acres in
Colorado and 68,500 acres in Utah. A land settlement problem
would be one of the problems involved. The 160-acre limitation
would, no doubt, require some ownership adjustment. In F. Y.,
1960 and F. Y. 1961 we are endeavoring to complete a report of the
power potentialities at not only this site, but also at the Cross
