I

I

1519

opposed the same. The motion is carried.

I have two communications I would like
to read, a telegram to Mr. Sparks received
this morning from Senator Allott which reads
as follows:

'Full appropriations committee will likely
meet Wednesday to complete work on Public
Works Bill. Will be there to make certain
that Curecanti money remains in bill when it
goes to the full Senate. Also believe Bureau
of the Budget will clear Secretary Seaton's
certification sometime this week.

Signed - Gordon Allott, U. S. S.'

Then we received the following report
from Region 4 and I would like to read that
because it will be covering many of the proj-
ects which we will be considering on the
agenda:

Report on Bureau of Reclamation, Region 4, Activities
in Western Colorado
July 8 Meeting
Colorado Water Conservation Board

Construction

Paonia Proiect. Excavation work on Colorado Highway
No. 133 relocation, spillway, and outlet tunnel is continuing.
Work on the prime contract is about 20 percent complete in 17
percent of contract time. Our Chief Engineer's office has agreed
to the wider crest width and other design changes for the high-
way which were proposed by the Colorado State Highway Department.

Collbran Proiect. Construction of Vega Dam is about
94 percent complete. Excavation work on the Souths ide Canal
tunnel has not progressed very rapidly. The Refinery Engineer-
ing Company has begun clearing work on the first 20 mile section
of the Souths ide Canal, but has not undertaken work on the two
powerplants. A $1,669,358 contract was awarded June 8th to
Davis and Butler, Salt Lake City, for construction of the Bonham-
Cottonwood Collection System. Advertising of bids on the remain-
ing 12 miles of the Southside Canal has been delayed but should
be ready early in F. Y. 1960. Invitations to bid will be issued
this month for powerplant turbines and generators.

Smith Fork Proiect. Required revisions in the defin-
ite plan report were submitted in May. Approval by the Secre-
tary of the Interior, to be followed by submission to the Bureau
of the Budget, is expected soon. A repayment contract will be prepared
