.LO;::S.L

I

the east. This makes a total of around
350 individual reporters from whom we are
getting reports of hail and precipitation
and will get at the end of the season re-
ports of the amount of precipitation re-
ceived at these stations. This gives us
approximately 350 to 400 different reporting
sites. From some of the work done by County
Agents in the area we have reason to believe
that we will get approximately 60 to 70 per-
cent of these people reporting to us.

In addition to the precipitation amounts
and hail reports that we get from these in-
dividuals, we scattered in and near the
area a device that we call a hail indicator
that gives uS.an objective measure of the
amount and the intensity of hail received
at that particular point.

I will show you first one of these in-
dicators before it has been through the
mill which consists simply of a piece of
household aluminum foil together with a strip
of heavier aluminum foil .on top of a sheet
of styrofoam. If ardwhen hail 'is received
on one of these indicators we get a dent in
the indicator which we can measure for the
size and amount of hail. Here is one that
has gone through the mill. This has been
hit with a stone around an inch and a quar-
ter in diameter which left two good marks.
This then gives us an objective measure of
the intensity of hail storms at a particular
point.

I

In summary, the type of data that we
get can be summarized like this: we want to
know first of all what happened and the
second thing we want to know what was the
treatment involved. So far as the treatment
involved we have had the excellent coopera-
tion of the Weather Modification Company
and have received from them carbon copies
of their reports of , the logged times of the
generators on and off and also detailed re-
ports of the tracks taken by the aircraft
on their seeding flights. I have a copy of
some of those with me that I'll pass around
to members of the Board also. In one place
you will see a picture of the aerial tracks
of the aircraft on it and on the back a
