has been ccmpleted in the Twc Bar area of the
project. Land classification field parties
have been werking fer several months in the
vicinity of Baggs, wyoming. Our prcgram in the
Pet Heck and Savery Canal service areas is tc
update the previcus land classificaticn and to I
obtain a better ccrrelaticn between the land
classificaticn sampling and scil drainage
characteristics. This latter evaluation in- .
volves deep hole borings to locate the under-
lying reck barriers and 'in-place' auger hole
permeability tests tc evaluate the drainage
capabilities cf the soil. On lands presently
irrigated, the pcorer land classes will be
reanalyzed and prcblem areas will be rechecked
to see if alkali and saline conditions have
changed since the earlier classification. The
drainage wcrk will extend into the 1967 field
seascn, sc it will be abcut a year from now
befcre a decisicn can be made on the lands and
acreages suitable fer service by the prcject.

The Regicnal Directcr and prcject Manager
met with Colcradc and Wycming cfficials and
local spcnsors cf the Savery-Pet Hock project
en July 20, 1966, to inform them en the progress
cf investigations and to discuss problems or
que stiens connected with prcject develcpment.
Mr. Sparks and Mr. Phil Smith and many other
interested people were there and we are rather
grateful fer their participation. The main
items cf concern discussed in the meeting were
the determinaticn cf proper farm size, the
applicaticn cf the l60-acre limitaticn, and the
adequacy of the cadastral surveys in the area.
A follcwup meeting is planned with ccnservancy
district cfficials tc discuss analysis prcce-
dures and eccncmic factors invclved in the deter-
mination of family farm size. The cadastral I
survey problem is apparently one cf land o\~er-
ship identification, which results frcm resur-
veys deviating frcm established fence and read
lines and the inadequacy cf the mcnumentation
in some areas. ~luch of this problem can be
corrected by better identificaticn en maps cf
