ECKLES:

"Your discussion earlier about the citi-
zens groups in and around Denver with regard
to the completion date of Chatfield Dam -
immediately after the disastrous floods that
this area experienced in 1965 Mr. Sparks and
myself kept quite busy week after week
attending citizen groups meetings and we
stressed the point that under ideal circum-
stances, Chatfield Dam would be completed
in 1970 or 1971. This was wholly acceptable
until the procedure was described to the
citizen groups. So if they come before us
at our next Board meeting I think the Board
should keep this in mind that it was attempted
by Mr. Sparks and myself at these many meet-
ings to point out the fact that these things
are not built over night and there are steps
and procedures that must be followed. I
believe this is a point that we should keep
in mind."

I

MR. STAPLETON:

"Well, I think it is incumbent that Mr.
Shapiro's group should actively participate.
I thought they should be kept informed. I
would rather have this Board be the vehicle
for their being informed than any other
agency, state or federal, that I know of. In
view of our participation, I would like to
have somebody personally from the Corps of
Engineers to bring us to date on the project."

MR. SPARKS:

"I am sure this can be arranged."

Following is the written report from the Omaha District,
Corps of Engineers, submitted for this Board meeting:

"The following resume of the current status of our
activities in the South Platte River basin is provided for your
information:

I
