SPARKS:

successful in getting this project authorized.
We are hopeful we will get started in the
not too distant future with construction.
The project will cost about $30 million. It
was through the efforts of Congressmen Rogers
and Brotzman in the House and Senators Domi-
nick and Allctt in the Senate that we were
able to get this project authorized in this
critical year."

I

"Larry, as I recall, this Chatfield Dam
was originally to be completed late in 1971.
Is that the correct date? If not, how long
has it now been delayed?"

"The time schedules have been changed.
According to the first plan it was to be
completed in 1970. Then it was extended to
1971, and right now it looks more like 1972."

"I notice in the Denver area a great many
buildings and a lot of real estate activity
in that flood plain. I suggest, if we have
time for it at our November meeting, that we
invite somebody personally to appear from the
Omaha District and ask Mr. Shapiro and that
group from 'Dam the Platte' or 'Save the
Platte' to come. I think it is important
the Corps makes its plans known. I think
there should be some communication between
all these groups and I believe this Board is
the proper place to get it."

"Very shortly it will be pretty definitely
known as to the amount of expenditures to be
made during this fiscal year. Although the
fiscal year is already well along, the various
departments have not received a final alloca-
tion of funds. Within the next 30 days the
final allocations will be made and then we'll
know at what rate construction will proceed.

I

At the present time we are informed
that slightly in excess of $10 million will
be appropriated for the Chatfield project.
