.

.

e

ATTACHMENT 9

FPR 99-501
Flood Insurance Study, Douglas County, Colorado, dated March 15, 1993.

KEY ISSUES:
· The 1993 FIS revised the 1987 FIS for Douglas County.

· The 1993 FIS included revised detailed floodplain information for a portion of Sulphur Gulch and a
portion of Cherry Creek.

· The 1993 F1S was subsequently revised by the 1996 FIS (already designated).

· The changes in the 1993 F1S for unincorporated Douglas County are consistent with changes made in
the 1989 and 1993 FIS' for the Town of Parker (just now designated; see Attachments 5 and 6).

COMMUNITY RESPONSE
Douglas County sent a letter to the ewCB requesting designation and approval of portions
of the March 15, 1993 Flood Insurance Study and formal acknowledgement of other portions
of the study, as appropriate. A telephone conversation was held with representatives of the
county to discuss the designation process, and it was determined that no meeting was
required because aU pertinent issues and questions had already been addressed at previous
e meetings. The county is supportive of the Board's proposed designation action.

SUMMARY:
The staff recommends Board approval of the floodplain resolution for Douglas County designating
selected portions of the Flood Insurance Study dated March 15, 1993 and formally acknowledging
other portions of the study. The detailed and approximate floodplain information contained in the
FIS meets the Board's "Floodplain Designation and Approval Rules". The designation action
will assure that the previously prepared floodplain information for Douglas County is explicitly
approved by the state, thereby complying with state statutory requirements.

e

13
