flow recommendation, which meets 3 of 3 criteria and is within the accuracy range of the
R2CROSS model is 9.0 cfs. The winter flow recommendation which meets 2 of 3 criteria and is
within the accuracy range of the R2CROSS model is 3.5 cfs (See Table I).

Hydrologic Data

After receiving the cooperating agency's biologic recommendation, the CWCB staff conducted
an evaluation of the stream hydrology to determine if water was physically available for an
instream flow appropriation. There are no currently operated or historically operated streamflow
gages for this reach. The closest gage CWCB staff found was the gage located on the San
Miguel River 3.4 miles west of the Cornet Creek drainage. The hydrograph was derived from
data collected by the USGS stream gage for the San Miguel River near Telluride, CO (ID
#09171200), which has a drainage area of 42.8 square miles (see below). The drainage area of
Cornet Creek is approximately 3.3 square miles. Staff used a basin apportionment method to
estimate stream flows for Cornet Creek (See Gage Summary in Appendix C). The period of
record for this gage was 1959 to 1965, the period of record used by staff in their analysis was
1959 - 1965, or seven years of record. Table 2 below displays the estimated flow of Cornet
Creek, in terms of a percentage of exceedence.

Table 2: Estimated Stream Flow on Comet Creek:
Exceedence Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec
10/0 1.4 1.5 3.9 8.0 31.2 36.1 32.1 15.8 7.1 3.7 2.6 1.8
50/0 1.3 1.5 2.4 6.9 26.9 32.0 27.6 9.3 5.6 3.1 2.2 1.5
10% 1.2 1.5 1.8 6.0 18.4 27.7 20.7 7.3 5.0 2.9 2.2 1.5
20% 1.2 1.4 1.5 4.7 14.2 23.9 15.5 5.9 4.3 2.5 2.0 1.4
80% 1.1 1.1 1.1 1.7 5.4 10.2 4.2 3.0 2.1 1.8 1.5 1.2
90% 1.0 1.1 1.1 1.2 3.4 8.9 3.4 2.5 2.0 1.7 1.5 1.2
95% 1.0 1.1 1.1 1.2 2.8 7.7 3.1 2.2 1.9 1.7 1.5 1.0
99% 1.0 1.1 0.9 1.2 2.2 6.2 2.5 2.1 1.8 1.6 1.4 1.0

Estimated Stream Flow on Cornet Creek

10

<f)
't3 5

o

Jan

Feb

Mar

Apr

May

Jun

Jul

Aug

Sep

Oct

Nov

Dec

Month

-4-
