Table 2 shows that the summer recommendation of 9.0 cfs is available at least 50% of the time
from June Ie' - June 30th and the winter recommendation of 3.5 cfs is available May Ie' - May
31 e' and July Ie' - July 31 et The winter recommendation was reduced to 0.85 cfs from August
Ie' - April 30th due to water availability.

PreciDitation Data
Staff reviewed local precipitation data sets from 2 different sites located around the Cornet Creek
Drainage (see Precipitation Data in Appendix C). These sites include Telluride (1900-1999) and
Ames (1914-1986). Table 3 shows the water year and the percent of average precipitation
recorded at each site.

T bl 3 P

D

fA

a e reClpltatlOn ata as a percentage 0 verage.
Water Year T ellur ide Ames
1959 96 % 88 %
1960 90 % 91 %
1961 127 % 109%
1962 85 % 88 %
1963 117 % 97 %
1964 117 % 81 %
1965 139% 139%
Average 110% 99%

Table 3 shows a slight variation of precipitation between the two relatively close precipitation
sites. It is staff's opinion that the seven years of stream-flow data analyzed is representative of
average to slightly above average water-years.

Existing Water Right Information

Staff has analyzed the water rights tabulation and consulted with the Division Engineer Office to
identify any potential water availability problems. There are two decreed surface diversions
within this reach of stream (Cornet Creek Water Right and Backman Ditch). Based on this
analysis staff has determined that water is available for appropriation on Cornet Creek, from its
headwaters to the confluence with the San Miguel River, to preserve the natural environment to a
reasonable degree without limiting or foreclosing the exercise of valid existing water rights.

- 5 -
