MR. STAPLETON:

I

MR. SPARKS:

MR. STAPLETON:

MR. SPARKS:

I

1613

"It has been moved by Mr. Peterson and
seconded by Mr. Conour that the resolution be
adopted. Is there any discussion?'

"Senator Allott sent me a letter the day
before yesterday calling my attention to the
fact that repeated efforts have been made in
the last session of Congress to obtain appro-
priations for the Curecanti Reservoir. Of
course, as I pointed out to the Board, Senator
Allott, as well as Senator Carroll and our Con-
gressmen, tried very hard to get an appropria-
tion for the Curecanti Project.tpis present
session, of Congress, but it simply could not be
done. The reason I mention this is because ap-
parently Senator Allott felt the Board did not
realize that efforts had been made to secure
appropriations for the Curecanti.

Now the only purpose of this resolution is
to put this Board on record as having made an
official request to the appropriate officials
for money fior the Curecanti Project. Heretofore
we have not been able to make an official re-
quest because the project report was not com-
pleted and submitted. The only purpose of this
resolution is to now put us officially on record
in view of the fact that the project report has
been completed and certified to the proper people
as Public Law 485 requires."

"Maybe this is an unfair question but if we
pass this resolution what action is contemplated -
where do we go from here?"

"The resolution will then be sent to Colo-
rado's Congressional delegation and to the Secre-
tary of the Interior. In talking with some of
our Congressmen, they felt that in every case
where they made any plea for funds or for any-
thing in connection with reclamation projects
that they should be fortified in the first in-
stance by a resolution from this Board. They
could then state that this was the position of
the State of Colorado and that they were not
acting on their own. In order to keep our Con-
gressmen and Senators properly informed we
should deliver to each one of them simultaneously
an expression from this Board on every project
or every issue important to Colorado that comes
up in the United States Congress."
