:>.J.GG

The civil works activities of the Albuquerque District
in Colorado since our report to the Board on 6 April 1966 have con-
sisted primarily of investigations and studies for flood control
and related purposes in the Arkansas River Basin. This work has
been advanced generally in accordance with schedules previously 1
furnished. It is also pointed out that significant progress has
been made by the purgatoire River Water Conservancy District and
the Bureau of Reclamation toward consummation of an irrigation re-
payment contract for the Trinidad Reservoir project. Details
regarding the status of contract negotiations undoubtedly will be
reported by the Bureau of Reclamation. In addition, I am pleased
to report that a contract has been awarded for construction of
emergency bank protection work on purgatoire River at the Linden
Avenue bridge in Trinidad, and emergency work has been approved
on the Arkansas River near Boone consisting of repair of damaged
levees.

We do not plan to have a representative at the Board
meeting on 8 July 1966. If further information is desired regard-
ing our activities in Colorado, please do not hesitate to call on
US.II

MR. Earl-
ier this week we received copies of the Print
of the Subcommittee on Irrigation and Reclama-
tion of the House Interior and Insular Affairs
Committee. The bill was favorably reported out
of the Subcommittee over some very violent
objections. It was carried by a very substan-
tial majority of the vote in the Subcommittee.
This \.,eek the matter is to be taken up by the
full committee. t'le are hopeful that by the 1
end of next week the full committee will report
the bill to the House of Representatives.
Copies of the Committee report were sent to you.
In those copies you will note that some changes
\.,ere made by the Subcommittee. None of the
changes were substantial, I don't think, as far
