Governor McNichols, Governor <br />pro tem during Governor Johnson's illness, arrived.and was <br />greeted by the Board members, Mr, Bailey asked the Governor <br />pro tem if he .had anything to say to the Board, <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />"You, of course, understand that I appreciate <br />the great importance of the decisions in your <br />work here, You undoubtedly deal with some of <br />the most important problems we in the State <br />government have to work with, I think <br />everyone is pretty ~ell satisfied with the <br />complexion of this Board, Whatever you do <br />will be of grea~ significance and I think .the <br />people generally are aware of the importance <br />of your decisions, I certainly wouldn't want <br />to say anything with regard to policy, I <br />know the Governor has definite ideas,. Pel'sonally <br />I have some ideas which mayor may not be <br />good, but would not want to make any expressions <br />without the approval of the Governor, I am <br />going to see him this afternoon, and if there <br />is anything you would like to have me discuss <br />with him, let me know, I have avoided giving <br />him anything of any consequence. I do. <br />appreciate the invitation to attend this <br />meeting, Mr, Chairman, and I a~ glad to see <br />you gentlemen." <br /> <br />Mr, Bailey said there was nothing special to dis~uss <br />with the Governor, but to wish him a speedy recovery, <br /> <br />GOV, PRO TEM <br />McNICHOLS : <br /> <br />Mr, Crawford continued with the explanation of the <br />budget, He told the Board that funds had been requested in <br />the budget to employ a Legal Staff Technician I, as discussed <br />at a previous meeting of the Board, and explained the Civil <br />Service qualifications an? duties of a Legal Staff Technician, <br /> <br />Discussion of'the budget continued, <br /> <br />GOV, PRO TEM <br />McNICHOLS : <br /> <br />"If I were in your place, gl?ntlemen, with the <br />importance of the work you have, I certainly <br />would not cramp the,actiyities of the Board <br />by a budget that is smaller than you can get <br />along with, ~here is nothing moreimportaDt <br />than the work you have to do, I think the <br />Legislature ought to square its reponsibilities <br />with the importance of these problems, and I <br /> <br />I <br />
