These workshops are all held in the Colorado Water Congress Conference Room, 1580 Logan <br />Street, Suite 400, Denver, Colorado. The following is. the schedule of workshops: <br /> <br />. Water Law Seminar, Sept. 9-10 <br />. Endangered Species Workshop, Oct. 16 <br />. Water Quality Workshop, Oct. 17 <br /> <br />CWC Summer Convention: On Aug. 22 I attended the ammal CWC Summer Convention. Much of <br />the discussion focused on the need for action to address drought related problems, including generating <br />funds to build new water storage facilities. <br /> <br />Letter of Thanks: Attached for your information is aJetter thanking you for your support for money to <br />mitigate the impacts of the Monument Dam rehabilitation project on Preble's meadow jumping mouse <br />habitat. <br /> <br />Water Resources Review Committee: The next hearing ofthe committee is Sept. 9. The committee . <br />will hear testimony from several panels concerning loans and grants for rural communities, <br />environmental perspectives, irrigation water conservation, the W ater Availability Task Force, the <br />Metropolitan Water Supply Investigation, water projept financing and I will discuss water infrastructure <br />inventories. The committee will also hear about federil1 assistance for water providers impacted by fire <br />related foods and will consider draft legislation. I will' provide you with more information about the <br />committee's activities and any proposed legislation at; our meeting. <br /> <br />Salazar Recommendations: On Aug. 19 Attorney General Ken Salazar wrote to members ofthe <br />Permanent Water Committee with several recommendations. A copy of his letter is attached. <br /> <br />Ted Speaks: On July 31 Ted Kowalski spoke about RICDs at the Natural Resources and Environmental <br />Law Brownbag Series sponsored by Environmental Defense, the Land and Water Fund ofthe Rockies, <br />and the Natural Resources Law Center. <br /> <br />ISF CLE: On Aug. 20 the Stream and Lake Protectidn Section, Jay Skinner ofthe DOW, Linda Bassi <br />and Alex Davis of the Attorney General's Office conducted a Continuing Legal Education course <br />entitled "Stream and Lake Protection 1 Ol-a Basic Priiner on Colorado's Stream and Protection Law." <br />The Course was well attended and well received. <br /> <br />Groundwater Commission: The Ground Water Commission held its third quarterly meeting in <br />Steamboat Springs on Aug. 16. The Commission welcomed two new members, Ralph Curtis from the <br />Rio Grande basin and Frank Jaeger of the Parker Wa(er and Sanitation District. <br /> <br />Water Quality Study: HB 02-1344 required that th~ Water Quality Control Division undertake a study <br />to examine whether the state water quality control program standard-setting and classification process . <br />should be modified to reasonably accommodate the unique attributes of Colorado's water bodies. As a <br />part of this effort, the WQCD has established a "Section 309 Study Advisory Group" to provide advice <br />and information to the WQCD as it proceeds with this effort. <br /> <br />10 <br />
