<br />159 <br /> <br />with Senator Millikin and he suggested that I present the <br />matter to the Conservation Board for their consideration. <br />I understand Senator Millikin has had some letter <br />objecting to the change in the name of Granby Reservoir, <br />Mr. Millikin indicated that he felt the Colorado <br />Delegation in Congress should take no action without the <br />approval of the Water Board. ' <br />I would appreciate your bringing this matter to the <br />attention of the Board at its next meeting. It is possible <br />that the members of the Board.may suggest some other <br />structure or lake which could be.named in honor of Mr. <br />Stone. C. <br /> <br />My dear Senator Millikin: <br /> <br />February 17, 1953 <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />On January 15, 1953, the Bureau of Reclamation wrote you <br />regarding the proposal to rename Granby Reservoir in honor <br />of the late Judge Clifford H. Stone. We have heard from <br />the Regional Director in Denver,'eolorado and are now in <br />a position to provide you with the report requested in your <br />letter of December 31, 1952. <br />A memorial resolution, that Granby Reservoir be renamed <br />for Judge Stone, was unanimously adopted at the annual <br />meeting of::the National Reclamation Association at Long <br />Beach, California on November 13, 1952, and it is expected I'~ <br />that a decision as to the Association's course of action <br />regarding. this resolution will be reached at their forth- <br />coming board meeting in March. <br />Bureau of Reclamation officials at Granby indicate <br />that changing the name of the reservoir has already <br />received some opposition from owners of resort motels and <br />ranchers in the area and that more may be expected from <br />operators of summer resorts who are not year-round residents <br />of Granby and have not yet heard of the proposal. Evidently <br />local people are in agreement with the idea of honoring <br />Judge Stone, but object to renaming Granby Lake because of <br />
