145

This request was duly passed, unanimously, at the I
regular meeting of Breen Grange 318 on Feb. 27, 1953.

/s/
/s/
/s/

CARL WILTSE, Legis. Comm.
JAMES MASON, Agriculture Comm.
JESS DAUGHETEE, Agriculture Comm.

/x/ BRYAN WOOUS, Master

,

Mr. Hunter asked Mr. Crawford whether he had
received any communication relative to the La Plata-Animas
Project from the Chamber of Commerce in the City of Durango.

Mr. Crawford replied, "No, none at all."

Mr. Riter made the following statement in this
regard: "There has always been a problem to get. additional
water for the La Plata River - its pretty well used up; and,
there 'is the compact between Colorado and New Mexico. This is discussed in Blue Book of 1946.
Not only affects Colorado, but also New Mexico. Possibility
of working out a two-state project. I don't have latest
information on cost or acreage, but from memory, involves in
the neighborhood of,lOO,OQO acres in both states. Good land
down there, but no way of getting water out of La Plata; ad-
ditional water must come from the Animas. First called La Plata
Unit. II ,

Mr. Hunter suggested getting behind this La Plata-Animas
project at present time and trying to see if they are taking
mwch interest in the big one now.

Mr. Riter stated, "Of course I don't know what
Mr. Larson's plans are to finish his report; don't know whether
he will have a force. Believe he will have report ready in
another year. It might not be available to be Colorado River
Project at this time. Crabtree is working on that large project
to get better information than was presented in the Blue Book in
1946"

I

Mr. Breitenstein asked whether we will have to
negotiate with New Mexico on this large project, and added that
