thought the members of the State Board should know the
purpose of, to secure some background information which the
Committee felt the University was qualified to provide in
the matter of economic potentials of the Western Slope, which
is quite apart from the water resource study by Mr. Riter.
Mr. Riter's committee is essentially a water resource group.
The Bureau of Business Research will check into the potentials
of the basins, from an economic and business standpoint. H

Mr. Crawford pointed out that both studies would be
integrated when the final results were in and would show
the demand for water.

Mr. Saunders said the completion of the economic report
at an early stage would be of benefit to the .Research Committee
and that the expenditure of $1500 at this time would expedite
this report.

Mr. Dille moved that such action be approved by the Board

Mr. Headlee seconded the motion.

Mr. McCormick questioned the necessity of paying for such
service when the individuals doing the work are already being
paid out of state funds. He added that he thought this work
should be done by the University of Colorado without any
extra compensation.

Mr. Crawford explained that this work will not be done
by employees paid by funds appropriated by the State but by
part time graduate students and full employees whose salaries
come from charges made for the service. All funds we pay
the University replaces money the University spends to make
this service available. Salaries earned on this work are not
paid from appropriations but come from income produced by
contracts of this nature.

Mr. McCormick asked whether the University would assume
the responsibility for the accuracy of the report.

Mr. Crawford answered that he thought they would do so
within reasonable limits.

The chairman called for a vote on the motion.

The motion was unanimously carried.
