Samples \.-lc.rc collected April through Scptcm~cr of 1968. Because

of snOH accumulation and high run~off during the ,.:inter and spring

months, the arQa i~ generrtl1y in2cc~ssible to project personnel.

An examination of the data (Tables 52 through 55) indicate that

toxic Hastes introduced into Coal Creek by the facilities of Standard

~Iining Company are deleterious to bottom fauna in Coal Creek. Seem-

ingly, effluents introduced by facilities of the Standard Hining

Company arc responsible for the deterioration of ~2tcr quality in

Coal Creek whicl] j.s a tributary of tIle secolld order of tIle Gunnison

River.

Recommendations

1. A copy of the data for this area sho:lld be s('nt to the. ColoraGo

Water Pollution Control CO~illission.

2. Because of the general inacccssD.bility of the area, it should

be dropped from thQ project pending actio~ taken by the

Colorado \'!ater Pollution Control CO,",clission.

on selected Colorado streams and rivers caused by effluents of the min-

ing and milling industry.
