pastures and who has now returned as the newly appointed construction
engineer for the Dolores Project, Mr. "Rip" Radcliffe. He is no
stranger to many of you, having been the construction engineer on the
Narrows Project and work elsewhere in the Lower Missouri Region.

MR. SPARKS: Dave, that raises a guestion.
engineer for the Narrows Project over here,
Narrows? (Laughter)

Since we have the project
are we giving up on the

I

MR. CRANDALL: No comment on the Narrows Project. All I know is--

MR. STAPLETON: Is what you read in the newspaper.

MR. CRANDALL: All I know is that he is now.one of us. We are not
giving him away.

Mr. Jake Rinckel, Project Manager for Western Colorado and Mr. Harl
Noble, Regional Planning Officer from Salt Lake City; Mr. Wayne Cook,
who is the head of our Durango Field Activities.

MR. STAPLETON: Thank you for being here.

MR. CRANDALL: The water outlook for this past year is summarized for
you, and it has been an unprecedented year. I have included there
under the "Runoff" the calculated virgin flow, which I don't remember
exactly what the 1934 amount was, but I think they are comparable. It
is kind of a standoff as to which might have been the driest year.

MR. GOSLIN: Dave, 1934 was 5.6 MAF.

MR. CRANDALL: Thank you, IvaI. So that means that on the basis of
thatcomparisQn, we have had an equally dry year. Of course, with the
depletions, it has been a.record low.

The operation of the Upper Basin Reservoirs has been limited because of
the imbalance between Mead and Powell of an eight and a quarter MAF
release out of Lake POwell. We will be very close to that at the end of
the water year, but a couple of hundred thousand acre-feet short. I
think by the 3rd or 4th of October, the eight and a quarter amount will
actually be passed. Because of the variations in loads and purchases of
power, it is just almost impossible to come out right on the nose.

I

.
The reservoir content for each of the other mainstem reservoirs are shown
on the first and second pages. They are all down significantly fr9m the
previous past years. And, obviously, in many cases, we have been able
to supply water for uses that otherwise would have gone unfulfilled.

Moving on to page 3 to the "Construction Activities," crystal Dam is,
for all practical purposes, completed. It is in the final stages of the

-2-
