A system of open canals, tunnels,
and siphons would convey water from the
reservoir to the project area. The area
consists of some 33,000 acres of new land
and 10,000 acres now irrigated with only
a partial water supply.

Investigations are scheduled to be re-
sumed on this project this fiscal year. How-
ever, investigations cannot start until Con-
gress has appropriated funds for this purpose.
Nucla and Saucer Valley projects are included
as units under the San Miguel project investi-
gations and will be so covered in the feasibil-
ity report.

This year's work will consist of land
classification and drainage review to determine
future work, initiation of field surveys in
latter part of fiscal year to obtain feasibil-
ity design data, preliminary geologic appraisals
of diversion sites and canal structure sites
not covered previously, and plan formulation
studies."

"I have only one thing pretty well current
on the investigation. The Paonia Project, of
course, with the good work of our local and
State people, and your congressional delegation,
is expected to be released in the very near
future. .

The construction of the dam and spillways
of the Collbran Project is going forward. The
South Side Canal will be started in the Spring.

We originally reported that the feasibil-
ity report on the Crawford Project would be
out about the first of the fiscal year but
because of some delays in priorities and the
Curecanti unit, the Crawford has been delayed.
It will be out this Fall.

By the way, let me say with reference to
Mr. Crabtree, we in the Regional Office feel we
have a very efficient office here in Durango
covering investigations of the San Juan area.
