1012

Work in fiscal year 1959 will consist
of comparative studies for evaluation of alter-
nate routes and sites, project plan formulation,
flood studies for Hay Gulch dam site, water
supply and reservoir operation studies, geologic
appraisal 'of Purgatory Dam site, and detailed
land classification. Completion date of feasibil-
ity report is scheduled early in 1962.

I

The Dolores Project consists of a dam on
the Dolores River ten miles below the town of
Dolores. The high water line of the reservoir
would be below the town of Dolores and immediate-
ly above the mouth of Lost Canyon Creek at about
the site of the old rqilroad bridge crossing.
A dike would be constructed across the saddle
on the west side of the reservoir basin. The
irrigation outlet works would be constructed
in the "Great Cut" through the dike. A canal
from the outlet works to the west and northwest
would serve Montezuma Main Canal No.2 and its
service area and facilities and approximately
26,000 acres of land now dry farmed southwest
of Dove Creek. An investigation will be made
to determine whether this same outlet works can
also serve Montezuma Main Canal No.1. If not,
the present tunnel for this canal would probably
be rehabilitated.

Feasibility investigations are estimated at
60% complete. Engineering surveys, including
control surveys and topographic mapping, of
project land areas, are nearly complete. Field
work has been completed on detailed classifica-
tion of project lands in Montezuma Valley,
McElmo Creek and Towaoc areas. Basic data for
water supply studies has been assembled.

It is planned to complete field engineering
surveys and field land classification as well as
assembly of preliminary design data during fiscal'
year 1959. Water supply and operation studies
will be continued in conjunction with development
of the project plan. The feasibility report is
scheduled for completion late in 1960.

The San Miguel Project is located in San
Miguel and Montrose Counties in the general
vicinity of Norwood and Naturita and is described
in a reconnaissance report completed in March 1953.
A project water supply would be developed by the
construction of Saltado Dam on the San Miguel River
about eight miles southeast of Norwood.

I
