1010

I wany to ,thank Mr. Chalmers and Mr.
McCrimmons for being here and we would be
pleased to have representatives of your office
present at any of our meetings.

The next item on the agenda today is the I
report of the Animas-La Plata Project and the '
Florida Project and I have been told that Mr
Crabtree of the Bureau of Reclamation will
make that report.u

MR. CRABTREE:

UThere are five projects in this Basin
that we are investigating at the present, or
will be very shortly and since there are people
here from Cortez and San Miguel, with permission
of the Board, I will speak on all five of them
very shortly.

One is our O'Neal Park Project on which we
reported unfavorably. Another is the Dulce
Project, about half the land is in Colorado and
half in New Mexico. We _ have; done nothing with'
that project and we know very little about it.
There is the Pine River Project Extension,
with some lands having a full water supply
from Vallecito Reservoir. The extension lands
are the lands we propose to irrigate at some
time. Another is the Florida Project. The
presently irrigated lands have only a partial
water supply and some new lands will be saved.
The Animas-La Plata Project, the Dolores
Project, and the San Miguel Project are also
being investigated.

The field studies covered in the draft
of the status report of the Pine River Project
Extension which was recently completed by the
Durango office, indicate the project is not
economically feasible. The report is now being
processed in our Regional Office.

The Florida Project contemplates a storage
reservoir on the Florida River. The new loca-
tion of the damsite is approximately one quarter I
of a mile downstream from the old Lemon damsite.
Surface geological examination of the site is
favorable and core drilling to determine sub-
surface geological conditions was started on
July 11th. A diversion dam would be construct-
ed at the present heading of the Florida Farmers
Ditch. The latter ditch would be enlarged from
its heading to the crossing of the Florida
Canal. From that point a portion of the Florida
Canal would probably have to be enlarged to
