.Lf;t.GO the investigation funds have been cut. I will say at the outset that we anticipated that some cut would occur because of projects being completed. For instance, during this present fiscal year the Smith Fork report will be completed, Silt will be virtually completed, the Florida will be virtually I completed and the Hammond will be completed. So we knew that there would be some cut be- cause of the completion of those feasibility reports. Also the Pine River Extension has been completed. The actual cut that has occurred in the Grand Junction office is $95,000 below last year's budget. The Durango office has been cut $90,000 below last year's budget. Now the projects which took the principal cuts were the San Miguel in the Durango office and the Fruitland Mesa Project in the Grand Junction office. Bostwick Park also took a cut. Those three projects in particular, the Bostwick Park, Fruitland Mesa and San Miguel would be materially slowed'do~m if'the budget holds up the way it has been submitted. The various employees of the Iepartment of the Interior are not permitted to state what money they could use in excess of the budget request. You can only get that by reading between th~ lines. They are under direct orders that' they are not to tell anyone that they can use money in excess of what they have requested. They request what they are instructed to request from the Bureau of the Budget. We know that these figures do not agree with the opin- ions of the Regional Director as to what money he actually needs and I am unable to get that information - what he actually needs. I hope to be able to get that from the Commissioner and I am not so sure that he will give it to me, but I know he will give it to our Congressmen if they make a request. I Budget hearings will start next week in Washington and will continue probably for a number of weeks thereafter until Congress adjourns. We are not prepared at this time, of
