In early October, Canfield
Drilling, under contract with the South Platte Lower River Group (SPLRG), drilled a 2000 gpm well on
the Tamarack Ranch State Wildlife Area. The well will be used to pump water into a recharge basin as
part of a managed ground water recharge project in the lower river. Pipeline from the well to the
recharge basin was constructed by personnel from the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District,
Lower South Platte Water Conservancy District and the Division of Wildlife. We are currently awaiting
.the construction of a power line to the well head. If all goes well, we should be able to pump water into
the recharge basin early in 1997.

As we have discussed, there are issues that will need to be discussed with the Colorado Water
Conservation Board. The first issue is sharing oflong term operations and maintenance cost of the
project. The project has long term benefits to both fish and wildlife interest and water user interest. The
second major issue is how to distribute the water credits generated by the recharge project.

GM/
cc: Towry
Graul
East

.

DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES.
