'.
.

DMaIoMt Cotreaponclenc:e Only

STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF WILDLIFE

.

DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES

DATE:

12 November 1996

TO:

Eddie Kochman

FROM:

Doug Krieger

SUBJ:

SL V - Instream flows

John Alves has checked the lake and stream database for fishery information on the SL V
streams that you listed in your 9/23/96 memo. Four of the streams (Decker, Merkt,
Rock and Swidinski Creeks) show uno fishery" value; while the other five (Alder, Clover,
Dorsey, Spring and Lonetree) show "above average" to "excellent" fisheries. The fishery
database field sampling dates are in 1980, and John will resurvey all of the streams
during summer 1997 to get current information.

Jay Skinner has checked on the streams that are listed as having fishery value, and has
determined that each of them has a quantification point for instream flow determinations
for channel maintainence flows on the Rio Grande Forest. If the USFS is successful with
. their negotiations then we will have a reserve right on those streams, at least on USFS
land.

When appropriate conditions are met in 1997 John, in cooperation and with the
assistance of Jay Skinner, will complete field assessments necessary for isf filings on
those streams that are determined to have fisheries.

Please let me know if this plan meets your needs. Thanks.

.cc:

Skinner
Alves
