SAUNDERS:

MR. PETERSON:

MR. SAUNDERS

I

<.1

UMr.

Chairman, may I make a brief remark

I
here?"

"If it will be brief and then, Mr. Nelson,
do you still want a ten minute recess? We
might as well recess for lunch after this."

"The point is that Denver believes that it
should be an essential part of any steering
committee which would be appointed and that by
participating in this, Denver does not intend
in any way to relinquish its use of the Two
Forks Reservoir, not for the purposes mentioned
by Mr. Barnard, Sr. at all, but for the purpose
of storing the waters of the Eagle River and
any other waters of the Colorado River system
to which it may become legally entitled."

"Before Mr. Saunders leaves the microphone
I'd like to ask him a question."

"All right."

"I'd like to ask you a question, Mr. Saund-
ers, if I may."

"All right."

"This project, as I understand it, is to
be built by the federal government through the
Reclamation Bureau. Does Denver - would you
say that Denver would agree to abide by the
federal reclamation laws in connection with the
construction of this project?"

"The federal reclamation laws have always
been abided by with us and we would expect to
comply with all of those laws. The statement
that I just read into the record indicates
Denver's intention to abide by the law entirely.
And that is one of the reasons that we would
be interested in participating in these
studies. is to see that the results of the
studies would permit us to participate without
the loss of the water rights which are es-
sentially not to the growth of Denver as such,
