resolution is directed to your attention by
terms of the resolution itself, passed 1 JuJy
1953 by the Board'of Directors of the Colorado
S~ate Association of REA Cooperatives meeting
at Denver. This Board is composed of a representa-
tive of each rural electric cooperative belonging
to the Association. RESOLUTION: VffiEREAS, the
construction of Wagon lVheel Gap Dam and Reservoir
on the Upper Rio Grande, a portion of the
San Luis Valley Project authorized by the
Congress in 1940, would be of great economic
value to the San Luis Valley and the State of
Colorado through benefits for irrigation,
flood control, generation of power, fish and
wildlife preservation and allied benefits.
AND WHEREAS, the proposed report of the Bureau
of Reclamation contemplates the installation
of facilities for the generation of electric
energy, A~~ WHEREAS, large amounts of power
are now imported into the area to be served
by the hydroelectric facilities of Wagon \Vheel
Gap Dam, which imported power can well be
utilized in other areas of Colorado nearer to
its source. M~D ~~1EREAS, the construction of
Wagon Wheel Gap Dam and reservoir would furnish
needed additional hydroelectric power and the
more efficient distribution of existing power.
NOW, THF~~ORE, Be It Resolved by the Board of
Directors of the Colorado Association of Rural
Electric Cooperatives that the Colorado Water
Conservation Board, the Governor of the State
of Colorado, the Colorado Congressional delega-
tion and the Secretary of the 'Interior, be
urged to approve said proposed report, facilitate
the adoption of the necessary enabling legislation,
if apy be required, and expedite the appropriation
of funds for the construction of said Wagon 7llieel
Gap Dam, power plant and reservoir."
