the contractor initiated work on this. The work
consists of providing access roads to the dam.

I

The Colorado Department of Highways recently
awarded the $2.7 million contract for the reloca-
tion of U. S. Highway 50 and Colorado 149 between
Gunnison and Sapinero. Either under contract or
completed are two other sections of highways.
~ith the completion of all this work, including
the new schedule just awarded, this will complete
the highway relocation at Blue Mesa that is re-
quired as a result of the construction at Blue
Mesa Dam. There is another section between Iola
and East Elk Creek yet to be constructed to com-
plete that link but that is the responsibility
of the state of colorado.

This Thursday they will open bids at the
offices there in Gunnison for the construction
of County Road 7. This is the road that will
replace the old Lake Fork Road.

Full-scale construction is under way on the
transmission system. All of the original network
of these lines necessary to deliver initial power
from Flaming Gorge in 1963 and Glen Canyon in
1964 is under construction. Work was begun on
pinnacle Peak, Curecanti and Hayden Substations.

I

The Department of the Interior has announced
approval of the Bureau's recommendations for
allocation of power generated by hydroelectric
plants of the storage Project to more than 100
municipalities, government installations and
cooperatives in Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming,
Utah, Arizona, Nevada, and California. This
first block of power will be available in Septem-
ber 1963. This allocation follows tentative
allocations announced in January with minor changes
made on the basis of comments received from poten-
tial customers.

On May 17th the $2,278,000 contract for the
multichannel microwave radio system to serve
power facilities of the storage Project from the
Power Operations Office at Montrose was awarded
to General Dynamics Corporation, Stromberg-Carlson
