3:4:681

factual data as a result of an extensive drilling
program on which to base their conclusions rather
than just theoretical geology which is the basis
of conclusions which have been reported in the
newspapers.

I

I think further evidence of bordering on
irresponsibility is the charge by this person
that the Bureau of Reclamation has spent upwards
of.one-half million dollars on this investigation
and this could be done much more economically and
in less time by a private geological firm. This
is patently untrue because the Bureau has only
had a half million dollars in the last fiscal
year to do all of the work that has been done in
connection with the Fryingpan-Arkansas project.
A good deal of this money has been spent for
other things; for relocation of utility facili-
ties; it has been spent in the establishment of
an office in Pueblo, a projects Office to take
care of this. There are many people under the
Bureau's employ working allover the project area.
All of this money has not been concentrated in
the drilling program and investigation for Ruedi
Reservoir.

I think that this should be pointed out at
this time as it gives the Bureau a black eye
because of these irresponsible utterances. I
believe one article stated there was some pro-
fessional irresponsibility connnected with this.
I do want to take this opportunity to point out
that the Bureau's decision, whatever it is, will
be based on factual data, it will be based on
more detailed data than is normally collected for
a reservoir of this sort. I did want to clear
that up.

One more commemt i.s in orde~. I think, and
that is perhaps a little bit of a sore point in
this area but I do think Jim's comments on the
, adequacy of the water supply for the Colorado-
Big Thompson Project in such a horrible year as
this is waterwise allover the state, serves to
illustrate the thing that the Board and the staff
of the Board has been expounding on for many
years and that is that storage is the answer to

l
