<br />'741 <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />is going to be but we do have a tre- <br />mendous task there to work out and I <br />am sure Mr. Dexheimer will insist that <br />when we present a report to the Secre- <br />tary that we will have to know what the <br />best plan is and have it tacked down to <br />the best dam site and dam sizes." <br /> <br />Mr. Larson gave the following brief report on investi- <br />gative activities by the Bureau of Reclamation in Western Colo- <br />rado: <br /> <br />Collbran Project. <br /> <br />A contract for construction of Vega Dam was awarded <br />July 12 to the C. F. Lytle Company of Sioux City, Iowa, on <br />its low bid of $1,707,145 compared to the engineer's estimate <br />of $1,910,432. Excellent progress is being made by the con- <br />tractor on the relocation of the County road in the reservoir <br />basin, excavation for outlet works, stripping of foundation and <br />borrow areas, and in setting up concrete plant and shop facili- <br />ties. Concrete placing operations have been started on the out- <br />let works and embankment placement is expected to be started <br />late in September. <br /> <br />Mesa County is widening and graveling three and one- <br />half miles of road below the damsite which will materially <br />assist construction operations. <br /> <br />Issuance <br />the Southwide Canal <br />funds are available <br />ceed expeditiously. <br /> <br />The repayment contract is in effect and all operating <br />agreements for the use of existing and private reservoirs have <br />been executed. <br /> <br />of specifications for the construction of <br />is scheduled for February 1958. Y. 1958 for construction work to pro- <br /> <br />AUTHORIZED PROJECTS <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Upon authorization last year of the Colorado River <br />Storage Project and participating projects, we were faced with <br />a tremendous planning program in completing the definite plan <br />investigation necessary to place the projects in readiness for <br />construction. It was impossible to undertake work simultaneously <br />on the 11 authorized participating projects. Therefore, with <br />the advice of officials of each of the four States, the Bureau <br />selected specific projects on which to concentrate its work in <br />order to get construction underway on one participating project <br />
