accomplished by the cooperative
efforts of the U. S. Geological
Survey, the State'of Colorado and
the Bureau of Reclamation, it was
noticed that there might be a possi-
bility of developing water suitable
for credit under the terms of the Rio
Grande Compact by means of pumping
from wells whereby the quality could
be controlled.

This Fiscal Year the State of
Colorado is putting out $25,000.00
which will be matched by the Bureau
for further investigation of these
possibilities which were outlined in
a reconnaissance report which had
been furnished the Colorado Water
Conservation Board in March of 1956.
To date the invest~gations are pro-
ceeding as scheduled and a week ago
last Thursday a meeting was held in
Denver to discuss the worK accom-
plished to date and the work contem-
plated. Present at this meeting were
representatives of the Bureau of Recla-
mation, Dr. Thad McLaughlin, U. S.
Geological Survey and a member of the
Closed Basin Drain Committee and ~r.
R. M. Gildersleeve, the Chief Engineer
of this Board. It was agreed at the
conclusion of this meeting that the
work done to date seemed to be suffi-
cient to give us the information de-
sired. The work contemplated also ap-
peared to be at this time sufficient
to give us the information desired on
the pumping tests which now become the
critical data that we need.

In addition to the contribution
by the State of Colorado through your I
Board, Dr. McLaughlin will make avail-
able a special drill rig for the
drilling of the deep observation wells .
and will supply the services of at
least one engineer qualified to conduct
pumping tests and will analyse all
pump test data for report to be pre-
pared by the Bureau of Reclamation.
