/59

MR. PETERSON:

"I would like to ask Mr. Dexheimer
if the Curecanti or any of the other
Colorado projects could be expedited by
financial aid from the State."

I

Commissioner Dexheimer suggested that if the State
of Colorado were so inclined it could participate in the con-
struction of Curecanti by paying for a portion of the storage
capacity and then sell the water so stored. Such a procedure
would make a better benefit cost ratio.

Governor McNichols replied to this suggestion by say-
ing that Colorado expected to be placed in the same relative po-
sition with regard to financing these projects as other states.
None had been required to purchase storage space and so assist
and he felt that such a procedure could not be considered by
Colorado.

MR. PETERSON:

"We are going to recess for luncheon
but before we do I wish to extend the thanks
of the Board to all the members of our Con-
gressional Delegation for meeting with us
and to urge that they attend all other
meetings which we may hold during their
stay in our State.

We will now recess until 2:00 P. M. "

The meeting reconvened at 2:00 P. M. and was called
to order by acting Chairman Peterson.

MR. PETERSON:

"Inasmuch as the Congressional Delega-
tion is not here at the present time and
since some of them will probably be here
a little later and have shown their inter-
est in hearing the rest of the discussion
on our Reclamation projects, we are going
to skip around a little bit on our agenda.

Still under #2 we have a report on the
Closed Valley. Mr. Sweet, will you give
us that."

I

MR. S'wEET:

"The acting Chairman of the Board
asked me if I would report briefly on
the Bureau's activities in the San Luis
Valley.

Following a study of the ground
waters of the Closed Basin which was
