that time a year ago, we requested what
we thought we would need for investiga-
tions on the Curecanti in '58, which was
$46,000 in addition to some carryover.
When we got the funds and started work,
we found the cost of the proposed plan
was quite high. We determined_ we must _
investigate other possibilities to reduce
those costs and so wind up with a feasi-
ble project. When we went before the
Appropriations Committee in March with
that budget they took a dim view of our
transferring funds so they tied our hands
to that B46,OOO plus the carryover. Now
we find ourselves having to do more work
without being able to transfer those
funds."

"We had people coming all the way to
Washington on the Curecanti. We followed
it very closely at that time and we thought
we had ample appropriations to COver this
plan. It is a keen disappointment to find
now that it cannot be carried out. If it
is lack of funds we will put on a campaign."

priority is set by law and we are required
to make the studY on the Curecanti as quickly
as possible."
