743

I

by the extension will be considerably less than the 15,100
acres identified in the 1942 land classification survey.
This is due to the continued development of new land by the
irrigators over the years and a more critical appraisal of
standards for the soils with low permeability. There is a
strong possibility that the remaining land area will not be
large enough to justify a project development. A decision
on this point cannot be made, however, until the agricultural
surveys are completed.

Smith Fork Silt and Florida Pro ects. Investigation
work is in varlOUS stages of comp etlon on these authorized
projects. No particular problems have arisen. Our completion
dates for definite plan reports are May 1958 for Smith Fork,
April 1959 for Silt, and }~y 1959 for Florida.

UNAUTHORIZED PROJECTS

The 25 projects specified in the law as having
priority in the completion of planning reports are in various
stages of investigation. Priorities assigned by the Colorado
Water Conservation Board to investigations in Colorado are
being followed as closely as possible in the initiation and
completion of project reports on these projects. Proposed
feasibility reports on the Savery-Pot Hook Project and the
Fruitgrowers Dam Project Extension were completed in 1954.
Reports on Fruitland Mesa and Bostwick Park Projects are sche-
duled for completion in F. Y. 1959, or about one year from
now, followed by Dolores Project in F. Y. 1960 and Animas-La
Plata Project in F. Y. 1961.

Significant items of interest on certain of these
projects are as follows:

Savery-Pot Hook Project. The State of Wyoming, by letter
of July 15, 1957, approved the plan for a combined development
in the States of Colorado and Wyoming which was presented in
the proposed feasibility report of July 1954. Cost estimates
and benefits and repayment analyses are being revised for sub-
mission of the feasibility report this fiscal year if possible.

I

Fruitqrowers Dam Project Extension. No further work is
being accomplished on the March 1954 feasibility report pending
approval of the project by the State of Colorado. Considera-
tion should be given to the desirability of proceeding under
this plan, or to undertaking the development as part of the
Grand Mesa Project. The latter project was covered in a recon-
naissance report dated July 1957.

Fruitland Mesa and Bostwick Park Proiects. Reports on
these projects were originally scheduled for completion this
