MR. CRANDALL:

"I don't have that in mind. They
drilled the first segment of the diversion
tunnel and they are working on the second
segment and from what I read in the papers
in that part of the country, they too are
slowed down considerably by lack of funds
and just what their revised time schedule
is I don't know. It would be a while, I'm
sure. II

I

MR. KROEGER:

"I went into the Reclamation office in
Durango and got some information just recently
in regard to the various levels at Navajo.
At this 5990 level, water covers 170 acres of
surface area in Colorado and this is not very
desirable surface acres because much of the
water is extremely shallow, and spread out
over a very flat area at the headwaters of
the lake. The San Juan particularly carries
a tremendous amount of silt and debris.
This is just not turning out to be the kind
of an operational thing that had been hoped
for and that I think is possible for the
State of Colorado. There is no reciprocal
agreement between Colorado and New Mexico
with respect to fishing licenses. Colorado
fishermen go less than a mile until they
get to the New Mexico state line and there
they buy another fishing license. The
part of the reservoir that Colorado has is
just a flooded river and a muddy mess.

If this thing could be raised 50 to 60
feet to level 6050, the water area in Colo-
rado would be 1280 acres and the Colorado
portion changes from less than two percent
of the total Navajo Lake to almost 11 per-
cent. The Game and Fish Department have
indicated by letter, and I saw a copy of
this, that if this reservoir is maintained
at 5990 this year they plan to stock it with
approximately 10,000 fish. However, they
have on hand 250,000 fish that they would be
willing to put in and actually had planned
to put in but they do not feel that it would
be wise to do so at this low level. They

I
