.

.

.

41

1

This project has been reviewed by the Fountain Creek

2 commission. There have been hearings, two hearings, in Pueblo

3 These were public hearings. The last one was in early January

4 It was attended by about 80 people, and it was a good cross-

5 section of the public in Pueblo. It certainly had a broad

& base of support for the project.

7 Therefore, we are requesting that you, the Water

8 Conservation Board, support this project and indicate your

9 support by adopting the proposed resolution. I think you all

10 have copies of it, and that this be forwarded to the Corp of

11 Engineers for inclusion in their study.
12 Do you have any questions? If you do, I will do my

13 best to answer them.

14 MR. STAPLETON: Maybe Mr. Jackson would have some

1& MR. JACKSON: Mr. Chairman, thank you.

17 perhaps most of you aren't familiar with Pueblo, but

18 the major portion of the downtown area of Pueblo is quite low;

19 and the river, when it did have its last major run, did put

20
21
22
23
24
25

some water in that area and could do it again. In fact, per-

haps more now than then. There is a substantial housing on

the lower east side, which Don referred to, which also is in

great jeopardy of flooding.
The hearings were good. They've had input, certainl

from both the commercial and the residential section of people
