-
-

Upon receipt of such an affidavit, the Board consults with the water commissioner for the
affected area to verify the claimed nse. After receiving verification, the Board will include the
description of the claimed use in its instream flow water right decree so the Division of Water
Resources knows to administer the instream flow water right as junior to the existing use.

A pair of public meetings in Delta County will give you an opportunity to discuss issues
involving present and future water uses in the North Fork and Smith Fork River Basins and
recommendations by the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) for instream flow
water rights to protect the river environment to a reasonable degree.

The first public meeting will be held on Monday, June 13th at Memorial Hall in Hotchkiss at
7pm. The following night, Tuesday, June 14th, the second meeting will take place in the
Crawford Town Hall at 7pm. These two meetings seek to protect existing water uses, identify
future water needs to allow the CWCB to protect instream flows without impacting existing
water uses and will inform area water users of the process to protect their water diversions and
identify potential future water needs that should be taken into account before the instream
filings are made and to protect the health oflocal waterways.

Our purpose in writing this letter is solely to provide information. If you are currently using
any water or anticipate future water needs, it is important that you file for a water right and not
rely on the above statute prior to CWCB's instream flow appropriations. For further
information, please contact '"lIayne Sct-..ieldt, .LA~sista..T1t Division Engineer at the Division of
Water Resources in Montrose at: (970) 249-6622 or email atWayne.Schieldt@dwr.state.co.us.

Sincerely,

North Fork River Improvement Association

2
