I

I

MR. STAPLETON:

factor in arriving at a decision is the extent
of the areas which may be furnished supple-
mental water from each of the alternate sites,
either directly or by exchange, and the amounts
of water which might be involved in the ser-
vice.

Consequently, the committee requested the
Bureau of Reclamation to include a study on the
exchange possibilities at the sites in an adden-
dum to its report. The individual members of
the committee were also asked to determine the
acreage to be supplied to, and the amounts of
supplemental water which might be required by
di tch systems in the areas which they repre-
sent.

At the present time. the criteria for the
exchange study have been set up. and it will
be carried on as rapidly as possible. The staff
of the Board will assist in the study. A por-
tion of the information on supplemental water
requirements has been received. and it is
expected that the remainder will be furnished
in a short time. The scheduling of the next
committee meeting is dependent upon the com-
pletion of the work involved.'

I might add that this exchange problem
is an extremely complex thing and I think, it
is my understanding, that it was the concensus
of the committee and the Bureau people that
this would have to be made virtually on a day-
to-day basis for a number of years in order to
come out with some sort of a working plan or
working estimate of what can be done. This is
a lot of laborious hand labor. We are putting
all the people we have available on this and I
am sure the Bureau is doing the same in, order
to develop and thoroughly explore these ex-
change capabilities."

"Perhaps Mr. Miller who, with your Vice-
Chairman, is on that subcommittee might like to
report. "
