<br />I <br /> <br />been made on the four storage units of the <br />Colorado River storage project; Flaming Gorge <br />Dam is about two-thirds completed, Glen Canyon <br />Dam about 60 percent completed, Navajo Dam is <br />90 percent finished, and a good start has been <br />made on the Curecanti unit. <br /> <br />Construction <br /> <br />The placement of concrete at FLAMING GORGE <br />DAM will be shut down early in November with <br />450,000 cubic yards, or nearly one-half of the <br />total yardage, in place. Placement will be re- <br />sumed when the weather breaks in the spring of <br />1962. <br /> <br />At GLEN CANYON DAM, about l,aOO,Ooo cubic <br />yards of concrete have been placed, of the total <br />of about 5,000,000 and the highest blocks now <br />rise more than 300 feet above the lowest bedrock <br />where the first bucket was placed on June 17, <br />1960. <br /> <br />Nearly 23,000,000 cubic yards of earth and <br />rock fill have been rolled in the embankment at <br />NAVAJO DAM. When completed, Navajo Dam will <br />contain a total of 26,300,000 cubic yards. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />On the CURECANTI UNIT, the state of Colorado <br />has made good progress on the relocation of U. S. <br />Highway 50 around the Blue Mesa damsite and future <br />reservoir area. In view of the work completed on <br />this construction, the scheduled completion date <br />of September 1962 for this highway relocation <br />should be met. An advance construction notice <br />was issued in October to all prospective bidders <br />on BLUE MESA DAM. The notice announced that the <br />formal invitation for bids would be issued this <br />winter and invited the prospective bidders to <br />inspect the site this fall before the onslaught <br />of winter weather. Bids were opened in October <br />for construction of facilities and buildings for <br />the BLUE MESA CONSTRUCTION CAMP. Early in Octo- <br />ber, the MORROW POINT FIELD ENGINEERING OFFICE <br />was opened at Montrose, Colorado, as a division <br />of the Curecanti Unit Office in Gunnison, <br />
