we can do most anything we want with the
water supplies of Colorado. That is abso-
lutely true and I think that we can maintain
the economy we have developed in the last
30 or 40 years, perhaps I'd better say 20
years as that's the period in which the biggest
impact by pumping has come about, I think we
can maintain that economy if we use care,
reasonable practices and I think we'd better
be doing it.

I grant this is not geared to give the
western slope people, my good sagebrush
friends, as much help as they would like.
They need some reservoirs, they need some
development over there. They have a pretty
good supply in the Colorado River: there is
a pretty good supply in the Animas yet and
in the Yampa, but it is not fully utilized.
They need some financial help. I shouldn't
be making an appeal that way but I will. I
have felt for a number of years that Colorado
was missing the boat. Some of our neighbor
, states are putting up their own money and
building their own projects. I don't believe
they are as goldplated as the Bureau of Recla-
mation but it is a job which I think we could
do some very respectable construction on.
Development in the San Juan Basin, the Yampa
and the Colorado with our own money if we'd
put it up.

Now Jimmy, you heard Larry's suggestion
that your committee meet with the staff and
the advisory committee and the Board. I don't
want to get a packet of stuff in the mail on
the 5th of February, asking me to vote on it.
I'd like to have at least a few days in which
to hopefully get something in my hands by
Friday so that I will have three or four days
over the weekend to look at it.
