\.?
-&34

MR. CRAWFORD:

MR. BAILEY:

MR. PETERSON:

"In talking with Governor Johnson yesterday,
he indicated that there were a number of I.~..
conferences in progress between the Commissioner
from Colorado on the Upper Colorado River,Commission
Frank Delaney, and Congressman Aspinall, and
that soon the Governor would meet with them.
Then there would be further conferences with
the Congressional delegations and the Upper
Colorado River Commission. It is his feel-
ing that in about a month from now there
should be another meeting of this Board, at
which time he will be able to present the
agreement which has been reached. He suggested
we keep in mind that within a few days after
Christmas it may be necessary to have another
meeting of the Board."

"I wonder if any of the Western Slope members
would tell us what the thinking is on the
Western Slope about this,"

"I can't speak for the entire Western Slope
But I know my a~ea is in full agreement with
the Governor's qontention that the power
profits' should.be divided with Colorado
receiving a greqt deal more than they are to
receive under the proposed S.500. Of course,
we wou~d be very happy if we could divide in
accordance with the amount of water allocated
to Colorado b~t if that can't be done, maybe
some other formula-: could be worked out which
would be agreeable to Colorado and to the
other states. Colorado is not getting her
fair share under the bills introduced in
Congress so far. Also, we believe that we
must get as much as possible in the first bill
because we feel it will be a long time before
there is a second go-around. We have many
areas which are classified as emergencies and
we can't wait 25 or 30 years from now.

I

.
"I believe that, as a whole, that portion
of the Western Slope which is included in the
Colorado River Water Conservation District is
in full accord with the Governot ~.s proposal of
dividing revenues from the storage project."
