~"""'....

I

the additional expense involved in the construc-
tion of the dike, and whatever embellishments
might be necessary for the dam itself. However,
because of the impact of this flood we have
asked tile Corps for a reevaluation of the bene-
fits for control of Bijou Crecl, at Narrows
damsi te. T'le anticipate that this finding of
the Corps will enable us to present an evalua-
tion of this dD,ing plan and other embellish-
ments to control Bijc:)U Creek in our feasibility
reporting for the Narrows unit.

We trust that this additional \-lork \.Till
not cause a material delay in the reporting on
the project. Ue feel that it is most essential
that the feasibility findings be presented to
the Congress at the earliest possible moment.

Additional features of the project include
the study of pump lifts to the Riverside Canal
and to the Bijou Canal, to the sterling area
and to the Julesburg area. These studies are
coming along \-lell. T'le are in the process of
obtaining cost information data. Of course, we
cannot lose sight of the fact that Narrows Dam
is vitally needed to provide conservation con-
trol of the Lower South Platte also, so that
the maximum beneficial consumptive use can be
made of the waters in the South Piatte River
that flow uncontrolled into Nebraska.

I

The second project that I would lD,e to
mention is the T\'/'o Forks project. The schema-
tic is presented on the second chart (again
pointing). That ShO\'lS the location of the Two
Forks Reservoir in its relation to Chatfield
and the various South Platte system features.
It lies below the existing Cheesman Reservoir;
it lies belO\l7 the North Fork of the South Platte
where the waters from the Denver-Blue River
Project flow into the system; it lies upstream
from Waterton and the int~,e and filtering
facilities of the City of Denver that are main-
tained for the handling of that portion of
Denver's water supply.
