q~~~

These studies of the Two Forks Reservoir
have proceeded as a result of contributions
made by the city of Denver and others, and the
state of Colorado. We completed a reconnaissance
evaluation of the site last March and since that
time have embarked upon feasibility grade studies
of the Two Forks Project. The Two FODcs Proj-
ect is also related to other South Platte
features - a potential reregulating feature on
Box Elder; the relationship of Two Forks to the
problems of water supply along the st. Vrain;
and other possible embellishments of water use
in the area. We anticipate that there would
be afterbay regulation below Two Forks to pro-
vide high diversion points for municipal water
users in the vicinity of Denver and in Denver
itself.

I

The work of geologic exploration is well
under way. We have two exploratory tunnels
drilled into the mountain side at ~10 Forks.
Other drilling is in process. We anticipate
that our feasibility studies can be completed
with dispatch and recognize that they must be
completed with dispatch if we are to be able
to report upon this project to the Congress
and to provide the buttressing that the system
needs for flood control and regulation.

The size of the reservoir is yet to be
decided. Physically the site lends itself to
a concrete arch dam of as much as 500 feet in
heighth. The conservation and flood control
capacity must yet be decided as a companion
piece to the Chatfield Reservoir site down-
stream. Our studies, of course, must be coordi-
nated through the efforts of your Board and
with the Corps of Engineers as the planning
for flood control on the South Platte proceeds.

I think also that we should report that
work on the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project is pro-
ceeding. It has a very vital flood control
function. This would be related primarily to
the Pueblo Dam above the City of Pueblo. The
floods we have recently experienced can't help

I
