'-J:.c.J~ I but remind us that in 1921 we had a devastat- ing flood that did damage in Pueblo. The recent event was related in large measure to the tributaries downstream from Pueblo but there was also a high flow into the river past the Pueblo damsite. We have initiated work on this site. 1'7e have begun to purchase land. Ne are in the process of working out a railroad relocation around the site and are prepared to move forward with the construction of this dam as soon as funds are provided for full scale construction by the congress. Our construc- tion program at the present time calls for com- pletion of this facility in 1972. Now this storage reservoir could be completed one to two years sooner than this, depending upon the funds that might be advanced by the Congress for earlier than programed construction activities there. To date the congress has not been asked for money in advance of the 1972 comple- tion date program. We have under way some basin type studies of the Lower Arkansas. These studies are under the direction of our Pueblo office. We have programed a very active study in this area beginning in F. Y. 1967. If we are to accel- erate this we would need funds in 1966 not now in the program in the amount of about $30,000. I On the Purgatoire River we are wOrl{ing diligently on the completion of the repayment contract for the irrigation portion. of Trinidad Reservoir. The floods that occurred in Trini- dad just a couple of weeks ago were of great magnitude and certainly point to the need for early construction of Trinidad Reservoir. We are prepared to do everything possible to speed that up by the completion of a repayment con- tract on the irrigation features. This is a most complicated repayment negotiation and it will be time-consuming at best. We will need help from all concerned including staff members of the Board to successfully complete the study. I think that the Board would be interested
