""'7:.&.:7-1

South platte Basin. with your permission I
will enlarge on this report as I go along.

I

I'd like to start with flood plain informa-
tion and get this out of the way. I think most
of the members of the Board know that our first
plain information report for the Denver metro-
politan area was available to the public in
February, 1964. This was for the South Platte
River from Kassler to Brighton, Colorado. Our
second flood plain information report covering
Sand Creek, Toll Gate Creek, and Lower Cherry
Creek below Cherry Cree:, Dam was available to
the public about one year later.

It is noteworthy that in checking this
flood that did occur, in checking back against
the flood plain information report, there is a
very close fit between the flood that actually
occurred, the outline of the flood that actual-
ly occurre~in our prediction of the hazard
area from an extreme flood. I am used to
competent engineering in the Corps of Engineers
but I, myself, am amazed at the accuracy of the
hydraulic engineering in this report.

I

One more point about flood plain informa-
tion. We are now in the process of producing
our Volume III of our flood plain information
reports series which will cover Bear Creek from
Morrison to the mouth, and Clear Creek from
Golden to the mouth. \1e expect to have at .
least the initial draft in the hands of the
Board not lat8r than sixty days from today.
Thereafter we will be working on volume IV
which will cover some of the minor tributaries.
I'd like to point out that in this overall study
we do have 42 tributaries in the Denver metro-
politan area, with a total of 412 stream miles
in this metropolitan area, to evaluate and out-
line the flood hazard areas. OUr progress in
this report has not be0n as great as is desir-
able. The principal limitation being the need
for accuracy; and secondly, the need for suffi-
cient funds. Now we have been in close contact
with the Chief of Engineers as to adequate
funding for these studies and he has, in fact,
