~

3.8 Canputer System

A Data General mini -c:cmputer system will be
located at the Operations Center. This system has the capability
to digitally record selected radar echo data. The system can dis-
play the radar echo intensities on a CRT display unit which also
has provisions for construction of a paper copy of the display.
This on-site c:cmputer system also contains software for rawinsonde
analysis, convective cloud rrodel c:cmputations, and statistical
analysis routines.

When seeding operations are in progress, PPI
and/or RHI scans of significant echoes will be routinely ll'ade at
15 minute intervals. If the digital display is inoperative, these
15 minute echo records will be ll'ade by direct photography of the
radar scope (PPI or RHI) using a 35nm canera.

The Ern carputer terminal will be used to
routinely access data needed for operational decisions such as
uprirrl sOlmding and !lOdel nms, upper air and surfaoe analysis,
hourly sequences, and severe weather warnings.

The local atrrospheric soundings taken at t11e
Lakin radar site (normally taken at l800Z) shall be processed into
the EI:N within one hour after ascent.
