JULY 14th/15th - OPERATIONAL DAYS #30/31: A north-aol.\th orientad
line of storms developed in central Colorado in early afternoon and
drifted easterly toward Kansas during the remainder of the
afternoon ande~ening, eventually reaching the Kansas state line
aboutl1 p.m. By the time the line reached Kansas only weaker,
non-severe stor~~ were found.

:. Two cloud hase planes were initially scrambled at 11:02 p.m.,
however, one developed landing gear problems; another was scrambled
at 11:29 p.m. Seeding began at 11:43 p.m. to increase rainfall and
was performed in a north-to-sQuth manner on the easterly mo~ing
line system working over Hamil ton, Stanton, Kearny, Grant and
Finney. Seeding ended at 1:14 a.m.

. . '.
. -" " .
. . . . . '.'
The s.econd plane t6get. airborne f1ewto a northeasterly
moving, isolated storm south of Gray County. However, by the time
the aircraft arrived, the storm had collapsed and the flight was
therefore terminated without doing any seeding. Total flight time
far the two airoraft was 4.0 hours.

JULY 15th - OPERATIONAL DAY H31: Late afternoon saw storms moving
into Kansas from eastern Colorado. The scattered line was oriented
in a NE-SW line necessitating all aircraft to be scrambled at 5;20
p.m. One aircraft was in. the process of shuttling our radar
technician from Scott City to Lakin and back at the time.

. At first separate severe-appearing storms built near southwest
Wallace and southeast Hamilton counties. Two cloud base planes.were
dispatched to the Stanton storm and one to Wallace. Seeding began
Stanton storm at 5:49 p.m. and was joined by a second plane at 5:56
p.m. As one of the storms moved into Wallace county, it collapsed
pushing out a strong gust front to the east generating new storme
abOVe it; seeding began over this gust front in Greeley Count~ at
5:52 p.m. Aa the Stanton storm complex began diminishing, one
plane was relea~ed to go to Greeley County where it began seeding
at 6:35 p.m. The cloud top plane a160 was seedins along the line
over Greeley and northern Hamilton by 6:33 p.m. A third airc~aft
was seeding along the leading edge of the gust front at 6138 ~.m.
The Lourth.base plane came up from Stanton County to assist seeding
a sElJilarate smaller line of storms around 7: 35 p.m. near Garden
city. The clOUd top plane ran out of seeding agent (dry ice) at
8:10 p.m. and returned to its Dodge City base for resupply. The
first cloud base plane ran out of its seeding agent at 8:40 p.m.

The storm growth and cloud merging which subse~uently oCCUrred
was such that an extensive NE-SW line of storms eventually had
formed across most of the target area by 8:30 p.m. and was solid
across Gray and western Ford counties by 9:53 p.m. The two planes
reBupplring were able to get airborne a second time with the claud
ba8e jo ning in seeding at 9:12 p.m. and the cloud top joining at
9:39 p.m. 8S thQ line moved into western Ford County. The three
other cloud base planes ran out of seeding agent between 9:12 p.m.
and 9:3B p.m. while seeding across Ford County. Seeding ended at
9:48 p.m. ~otal flight time this date was 22.2 hours.
