reconnendations. And I've enclosed among the handouts a copy of the letter that went to the
Governor with the reconnendations, and so I guess we'll go one at a time and just go through
each of these discussions. And again, this is a roundtable, feel free to throw out any
reconnendations that we have, and we'll just start through that. Anyone want to volunteer to go
first, or shall I just start working through the list?

Stephanie Dalgar - Stephanie Dalgar, Tourism Impact Task Force, and we had a number of
reconnendations in the report for the governor. We _? _ basically keeping the public
informed about travel (?) opportunities during times of drought and just promoting the
recreational opportunities of Colorado. So to report on those reconnendations we started to put
together a crisis connunications plan, which is really more of a proactive than. . .1 don't like the
word crisis, but it's kind of what these plans are called. It really is taking a more pro-active
approach to getting the problems _? _ out on the areas that would be specifically more hardest
hit in time of drought, which are obviously the rafting industries, fishing, recreational fishing, and
perhaps golf and streams as well. Those industries, aside from the wildfires, and what impact
there may be on specific tourism areas, that's a whole other issue, which we addressed in crisis
connunications plan as well. I hope to have that completed so that I can have a pilot _?_
next month. The impact connittee is reviewing it right now, and I've asked them to plug in
specific positive points and things that they are doing for their sectors, so let me highlight that.
The other part of the program that we want as part of the crisis connunication plan is to involve
the tourist industry as a whole. _? _ for positive stories that are going on in their areas. I am
pleased to tell you that the few people I have spoken to in the Grand Junction area, Glenwood
Springs, Clear Creek, have all reported that real tourism numbers are up so far, so as we move into
the beginning of the summer tourist part of the year, we're feeling pretty optimistic. Of course,
that changes from moment to moment as we all know. But we're looking for stories that are really
not in their area but that are positive that we can help counteract any ofthe negative publicity
we've had. It only takes one day of a negative story and 20 positive to kind of balance each other
out, so the other part of this. . . the third part of this plan then is to put together a series of speaking
points, which not only the tourist wants to _? -' but also can send out to the entire industry, so
that everyone is reading the same language, sending the same language, no matter who they're
talking to. Forth, on the Colorado.com website, we are going to start... we are in the process of
implementing some series of pages that would provide updates to the two national parks, any fire
damage to these places, and something relevant to the fishing industry, camping, and all the other
needs, expect to have all that. Definitely by the end of June... (inaudible).

_ - In addition to giving conditions, will you also be directing to the good places to go? If
they want to do recreation or if they want to do fishing, that type ofthing, so in addition to the "be
careful" downside, Colorado is still open for business and these are good places to go.

Stephanie - The way we thought we might counteract this is having some blanket statement,
because it's difficult for us to continuously update the website, we've implemented a new E-mail
address called Industry and Colorado. com and we thought the best way was to have that email
address and refer folks, to send any questions they may have, to that address, and then we can
personalize our response to whatever the question is. I got an e-mail from somebody who was
planning a trip to Winter Park and they had heard about all these fires in Colorado, and didn't hear
anything, you know, what's going on? Is it still safe to go.. . are any of these near Winter Park? So

26
