that came directly to me, although that being the main e-mail address it came personally. And I
responded and said that they had been contained, they were small, they weren't in that area, and
that you too can have a wonderful vacation. I think that having a personalized aspect to it, we can
better turn around any of the consumers who might cancel their trip.

- Have you looked at the experience of other states in 2000, like in Montana, I believe, the
tourist industry had a fantastic drought, I shouldn't say fantastic, it was a horrible loss because of
fire haze, because it was so thick that it actually. . . there wasn't a place left in Western Montana
where people go for vacation that had clean air. Weare sort of looking, I really didn't make that
point strongly, that western Colorado will have a pretty dire sunner this year. And last month,
you were actually amazingly optimistic, I think, as to what the impacts would be. And you
obviously have learned that it's a pretty bad year this year. And I was wondering, have you tired
to learn from other states' experiences from previous situations like this?

Stephanie - We haven't yet, and that's a good point, and I will be getting in touch with those folks.

_- I think Montana 2000 would be a good learning experience.

Stephanie - The specifics of the southwest would be. .. in 2000. .. the fires from 2000 that
transpired in that region, and last month I had _? _ folks _? _ and they had nothing in
place, there were no plans, hadn't even thought about it until I started asking them questions
regarding that, and I'm pleased to say that they're now working on a plan to help address any
issues that arise this summer, and I hope to have a copy of this plan in hand within the next month.
I really think we want to have industry united, have the same messages, how many went out with
being pro-active, and we have to take it day by day because although everything looks good right
now, I shouldn't say everything, but in general things look OK right now, you know that can
change next month.

_ - Stephanie, one other question. How are the hospitality industries doing in terms of
providing information to their customers on water efficiency

Stephanie - Both the. . . well, the Restaurant Association has shown a plan to me, ftItered all the
information to their members on how to conserve water, through various outlets, from making
sure your dishwashers are more efficient, to having little table cards for people to ask for water.
And then the Lodging Association as well, has a program that they're working on...they're asking
their participants to implement plans as far as laundry and other water issues.

Brad - Any other questions? OK, next.. . any volunteers? Someone who needs to take off?
Andrea from OSPB. I have enclosed the report that their office did as part of their handouts. And
if you haven't read them I would strongly reconnend that you take a look at it...it is a very, very
good report. A lot of effort went into this, and there is some excellent information. . . you can
definitely tell they rose to the occasion and went far beyond expectations, and it is an excellent
report that I would encourage you to look at it. Andrea?

Andrea - (difficult to hear, speaker not near the microphone, heavy background noise) As you
can see from the memo, the Dept of Economy put together a memo that essentially summArizes

27
