The area is a rolling
plateau which slopes southward to the Arkansas River. The irri-

gation system is owned by Beaver Park Water, Inc., a mutual ditch
company with 340 shareholders, and serves 3,452 acres of land.
The area was developed in 10~acre tracts in the early 1900's and
has produced excellent crops of apples. The water supply is from
Beaver Creek, which drains the south side of Pikes Peak. The

system has a total of 90.9 cfs of water rights and a storage decree
for 4,185 acre-feet in Brush Hollow Reservoir.

The irrigation system also supplies raw water to the Penrose

Water District, which has 687 customers. The Colorado Division of

Wildlife has a lease for fishing and recreational use of Brush
Hollow Reservoir.

PROBLEM

The Beaver Park irrigation system has a generally adequate
water supply from Beaver Creek, with an average diversion of 12,345

acre-feet per year. However, mOre than 50 percent of the water

diverted is lost by seepage out of the un.lined canals and from the
deteriorated pipeline laterals. The seepage losses result in an

inadequate delivery to the shareholders and, as a result, over
. 1,600 acres nave been taken out of production since 1960.

l
b;.~,^"

-~~.q;,;,',,~

~-,,>,)--;

-~ii~>~;.~,:;-,

.
