<br />The Coffintop and. Geer Canyon Reservoir siteS were
<br />Identified by the Bureau of Reclamation In a 1967 Recon-
<br />nalsunce Study as two of _ral potential dam sites
<br />, along the Front Range. . .
<br />in 1969. the City of Longmant finished constnictlon 01
<br />Buttonrock Dam (Price Reservoir) and datennlned that
<br />any future ~rvoirs to be built In the St, Vraln or Left
<br />Hand Basins should be a joint project among all the
<br />cltIz_ of the Basins rather then a single municipality,
<br />The reasoning for this approach Is thet reservoirs con-
<br />strucllld for municipal storage only are (8stricted with
<br />respl!Ct to NCr88tion, flood control potenllal and other
<br />uses: Therefore, the City actlvetyworked with the ditch
<br />companies In forming the St. Vraln & Left Hand Water
<br />COflI8rvancy . District. The Conservancy District
<br />JlIPl'8Hnts the ~ts of all water uaars wtthln the
<br />basins, Includlng production of agricultural crops,
<br />municipal water service, Industrial water needs, stream
<br />fishing, elec;lrlcal poWer requirements and other such
<br />geMral naeda as flood control, Improving water quality
<br />and recreation.
<br />WIth the lormation ot the District, the Board of Directors
<br />
<br />adopted the following goals and oblectiws: 1) Protection
<br />of existing decrees In'tfia Basins; 2) Provide additional
<br />water storage~ 3) ModHication of Il'!'igation systems to
<br />provide better management and higher eftlciency; 4) Meet
<br />water quality standards w ~hout negatively affecting water
<br />users. f

<br />A Iter working nine years to develop the overall water
<br />management plan, It was determined that the needs of all
<br />basin water users as outlined above can be met by the
<br />constru~ion of Coffintop Reservoir and Geer panyon
<br />Reservoir.

<br />The COffintop and Geer Canyon Reservoir sites were

<br />Buttonrock Dam (Price Reservoir) and determined that

<br />companies in forming the St. Vrain & Left Hand Water
<br />Conservancy District, The Conservancy District
<br />represents the Interests of all water users within the
<br />basins. including production of agricultural crops,
